Giffoni – IT

Client: Municipality of Giffoni

Status: Competition - Second place

Size: 3.000 mq

Piazza Giovanni XXIII, known as Piazza Annunziata, represents a hinge between the historic center and the various districts that make up the municipality of Giffoni Valle Piana. It is faced by the Don Lorenzo Milani elementary school and the Baroque-era church of Ss. Annunziata; it itself is characterized by a special overlook of Mount Cuckoo and the Terravecchia Castle.

While it is an important place for the city, over the years it has lost its connotation as a square to become a mere parking lot, a place for cars and no longer for people.

The proposed intervention therefore will return to the community and to the City of Giffoni new accessible, green, usable, permeable and shareable spaces.

The new square will therefore be able to develop and promote the city's cultural tourism proposal by becoming a new attraction and meeting center, relating the open space and the architecture facing it, enhancing the potential of the area: cultural-landscape context; connections and accessibility, and redesigning a new multifunctional and innovative public space.
