Villa Olmo, a majestic neoclassical villa on the west bank of Lake Como, was completely disconnected from the present, only belonging to a forgotten past.
The design-challenge involved transforming a place which was part of the past into a unique Botanical Garden, able to fit into a contemporary landscape.
This was possible thanks to the Botanical Collection linked to the local artisan culture and the silk production.

New cultural

district for the

city of Como to

spread the

“culture” of the

Italian

landscape

The idea is to design a park with a unique collection of dye plants in the world: a place where breath the traditional artisan production of silk that was able to produce beautiful colours from natural plants.

The working approach is respectful and harmonoious towards the preexistant botanic plants and architectural

structures. The intention is to maintain the hystorical character ofthe park.

The accessibility and usability of the park has been improved  so that Villa Olmo can be the centre of the botanical garden but also of the events of the city for the wide public.
